SiteGround WordPress Hosting Review

About SiteGround

SiteGround is one of the younger hosting behemoths to lead the marketplace today. They got their start back in 2007 with just one employee – which just goes to show how fast they have grown.

On their official WordPress hosting page, they say that their services are ‘engineered for speed, built for security,’ and ‘crafted for WordPress.’ They also offer plans starting as low as just $3.95 per month – which is pretty inexpensive.

But where does SiteGround excel? Everyone knows that they’re a major player in the WordPress hosting arena. They are even listed on WordPress.org as being one of the main 3 recommended hosting companies for WordPress users – but why?

We did some research to try to find this out. Here is what we discovered.

Hosting Plans and Pricing

SiteGround WordPress Hosting Plans

First of all, let’s talk about hosting plans and pricing. SiteGround, like most of the other larger hosting companies, offers some pretty affordable introductory hosting plans. Here is a breakdown of some of their most basic offerings.

❖ StartUp Plan

This plan is geared to get people started with WordPress at a great price. It allows you one website, gives you 10GB of Web Space, is suitable for 10,000 monthly visits, and comes packed with essential WordPress features. This plan costs only $3.95 per month, which is pretty awesome.

❖ GrowBig Plan

This plan seems more put together for people who have had the StartUp plan, but are now perhaps more interested in growing their site beyond those more basic parameters. The plan allows for multiple websites, provides 20GB of Web Space, is suitable for 25,000 monthly visits, and comes with plenty of essential and premium WordPress features. Pricing for the plan is $5.95 per month.

❖ GoGeek Plan

This plan is said to be crafted for ‘real WordPress Geeks’. It allows for multiple websites, comes with 30GB of Web Space, is suitable for 100,000 visits monthly, and comes with essential, premium, and Geeky WordPress features! The pricing for this plan is $11.95 per month, making it the more expensive of the three options – but it seems to come with enough in extras to make it more than worth the money!

Now, when it comes to pricing, it is important to realize that this is not all that you are going to have to pay if you are going to choose to use SiteGround. If you want that low monthly payment, you need to pay for at least 12 months all at once. If you choose just to do a one-month trial, it will still only cost you the monthly amount, but you will also need to pay a domain registration fee of $14.95. This fee is waived if you buy a year or more, though – so that will save you some money.

There are also a few other features that you need to pay for. Domain privacy is $12 a year, and the SG site scanner (which most people would probably want) is $19.80 a year… so these little fees can start to add up.

But still – with all of that said, SiteGround is still giving you a pretty viable and premium-grade plan for a good price.

Features and Services Offered By SiteGround

SiteGround offers quite a few different features and tools to help make their hosting service better for WordPress users. Here are just a few that you can look forward to if you plan on trying them out…

SiteGround User Interface

First of all, they have a 1-click installer. You can literally launch your website with 1 click – which is awesome.

They also provide auto updates, so that you can be sure that you will always be using the latest version of WordPress. They also offer WP-CLI command line management options… and these are all features that are provided on all plans!

On the more expensive plans, they also give you a SuperCacher, which offers 3 levels of caching. This makes your site super-fast, and it actually works really well.

Other features that they offer on GoGeek plans and higher plans include WordPress Staging and Pre-Installed Git.

They also offer a ton of other features though… so check out their website for even more information.

About The Company

SiteGround was founded back in 2004 by a few university friends. But it gradually turned into a leading web-hosting service provider. Employees back in the early days literally worked from their university dorm rooms… though they now retain more than 400 employees, process 1500 or more tickets per day, answer over 1000 phone calls, and host more than 500,000 domains… and that number continues to grow.
Their main physical business address is listed on their website as follows…

SG Hosting Inc.

901 N. Pitt St, Suite 325

Alexandria, 22314 VA

But you can also reach them anytime via chat on their website, over the phone at 1-800-828-9231, or by posting a ticket for their team to help you deal with.

SiteGround offers 24/7 support on several different mediums. You can chat with their service personnel via their website for pretty much instant communication… you can open up a service ticket, or you can call them on the phone.

We have looked into this quite a bit, and are pleased to report that SiteGround seems to offer some pretty awesome customer service. In fact, even some of the more ‘hard to please’ reviewers give them a 10 out of 10 in this area - which is quite impressive.

SiteGround offers a 30 day money back guarantee to give you peace of mind on your purchase. If you are unsure about whether or not you are going to like using them for your WordPress hosting services, then you can pretty much try them risk-free by making use of this opportunity. Keep in mind that this only applies to first-time service purchases though - not recurring purchases.

Main Differences When Comparing Them To The Competition

One thing that sets SiteGround apart from the competition is their almost perfect uptime numbers. If you are looking for a hosting provider with a really high average uptime, then SiteGround is most certainly going to be a service to take a look at.

Another thing that sets SiteGround apart is their lightning-fast page loading times. They are literally one of the fastest out there, and can compete with WordPress hosting companies that cost a lot more without even breaking a sweat.

They also tend to do really well in security, WordPress auto-updating, and customer service.

As far as cons go, they do tend to cost a bit more if you use them by the month – so you should probably commit to a year or more if you don’t want to get hit with larger fees.

They also give you a bit less storage space than you tend to get with other WordPress hosting providers.

Our Thoughts About SiteGround WordPress Hosting

Siteground Logo

First of all, we have to say that we really like SiteGround. There are a ton of hosting options out there for WordPress – but keep in mind that SiteGround is one of the three primary hosting companies that are endorsed on the WordPress.org site itself. And in our research, we realized why.

They offer super-fast loading times, their customer service is among the best that is offered in this industry, and their prices are also super low. Yes, you need to buy a year or more at a time, because paying by the month will actually cost you a huge amount – but the pricing is still really, really good.

There are a few downsides to site ground. You get limited storage space when you compare it to some other companies, and yes, there is the lack of a month by month option.

But when all is said and done, we feel that SiteGround is certainly one of the best out there. Make no mistake – there are plenty of options that you could have good experiences with. But if you want something trustworthy and you want your hosting service provider to come through on quality service, then SiteGround is most certainly one of our favorites.

What Do Others Say About SiteGround?

As far as we can tell, most customers and reviewers seem to pretty much agree with what we have said here. I have read a few reviews that told some rather negative customer-service stories, but that is to be expected with any company that is doing this much business.

Really, all things considered, we liked what we found with SiteGround.

Has SiteGround Been Reported On Scam Sites?

No. As far as we can tell, this is absolutely a reputable company that offers a legitimate business and service.
